Diamond Guide

How to Choose the Perfect Diamond Engagement Ring

We believe in the brilliance of lab grown diamonds – they’re the same as natural diamonds in every way and are a modern, ethical, and affordable alternative. Our mission is to make your diamond buying experience easy and enjoyable. From educational resources like our ring size guide and engagement ring trends to a curated selection of the highest quality diamonds, we're here to guide you every step of the way.

Understanding the 4 Cs (Cut, Colour, Clarity, Carat)

When it comes to buying an engagement ring, understanding the 4Cs - cut, colour, clarity, and carat - can help you make an informed choice that reflects both quality and personal preference. The 4Cs are the universal standards by which diamonds are evaluated, and knowing how each one influences a diamond's appearance, sparkle, and price will give you the confidence to choose a ring that feels truly special.

Carat

Carat refers to the diamond's weight, with one carat equalling 0.2 grams. But as you'll discover below, bigger doesn't always mean better.

Clarity

Clarity measures the presence of natural imperfections, or 'inclusions'. The fewer inclusions, the better the diamond appears.

Colour

Diamonds range from colourless to shades of yellow or brown. The less colour a diamond has, the rarer and more valuable it is.

Cut

Often considered the most important C, cut refers to how well a diamond’s facets reflect light. A well-cut diamond ensures sparkle and shine

Let's Break it Down

Shape

Diamond shapes, often mistaken for cut, come in various styles to match every taste. From the timeless round to the vintage oval and the Art Deco inspired emerald cut, our diverse collection ensures you'll find the perfect shape to reflect your style.

Understanding Diamond Clarity

Diamond clarity focuses on the tiny imperfections, or ‘inclusions’, within the stone. The fewer the flaws, the clearer and brighter the diamond. We only offer diamonds with VS2 clarity or higher, ensuring your engagement ring or fine jewellery sparkles brilliantly in every light. Diamonds rated VS2 and above have inclusions so minute that they’re virtually impossible to spot without 10x magnification, making them nearly invisible to the naked eye!

What Does Carat Really Mean for Your Diamond?

Carat is all about the weight of a diamond, not its size. One carat equals 0.2 grams, and the bigger the diamond, the rarer it tends to be. But remember, carat weight is just one piece of the puzzle. Two diamonds of the same carat can look very different based on their cut, clarity, and colour. So, bigger isn’t always better – it’s the quality that really makes a diamond sparkle!

Why Diamond Cut Matters

Excellent & Ideal

The ‘ideal’ cut is the pinnacle of diamond craftsmanship, offering maximum brilliance and fire. ‘Excellent’ cuts are nearly impossible to spot as anything less, reflecting slightly less light. To ensure the brightest results, we only use ideal and excellent cuts.

Too Shallow

Sometimes called a spread cut, this refers to a diamond with a depth too shallow for its width. This causes light to escape through the bottom, reducing brilliance and sparkle and potentially creating 'fish-eyes' in the stone.

Too Deep

When a diamond is too deep, light strikes the bottom half, or 'pavilion', at a steeper angle and is forced through the bottom, diminishing its brilliance and sparkle. Excess depth can also make the stone appear smaller than its actual carat weight.

Diamond Colour Explained

Diamond colour refers to how colourless or 'warm' a diamond is, with D being the clearest and Z showing noticeable yellow or brown tones. The less colour a diamond has, the more light it reflects. We only stock D-F diamonds, ensuring you get the brightest sparkle possible!
